Desired Surgical Speciality - Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
First Experience of surgery - I had my first experience of surgery whilst on my gap year. I was working in a hospital in Ghana where there was only one general surgeon and a scrub nurse. This meant I was able to scrub in and assist with numerous operations even though I hadn't yet started medical school!
Why a career in surgery? - I've wanted to be a surgeon for quite some time now. The idea of working with my hands and being able to make a significant difference to someone's life over a short period of time very much appeals to me and so far I have thoroughly enjoyed all the opportunities I have had to experience surgery.

Desired Surgical Speciality - Will follow my sutures..
First Experience of surgery - A foray into what sutures and a loupe look like -- playing with my dad's vascular surgery practice set whilst growing up. A radical mastectomy with reconstruction -- on the first day of my work experience at a hospital in Kuala Lumpur. I think they were trying to see if I would pass out. I didn't. Many firsts, but with more to come. :)
Why a career in surgery? - I am small but sparkly! :) I have small hands, but although piano keys in octaves may be slightly out of reach, I'll be useful to have around in an operating theatre. Jokes aside, I like the variation, I like the challenge, and I like the difficulty of surgery. And I also like the apprenticeship, the connection between student and teacher, between doctor and patient. An art entwined with all that science. The perfect job. :)

Year of Study - 3rd
Glove Size - 7 1/2
Stethoscope Colour - Blue
Favourite Operation - Plastics and trauma surgery
Desired Surgical Speciality - Changes on a daily basis!
First Experience of surgery - Orthopaedics
Why a career in surgery? - It has always fascinated me how detailed and intricate some surgeries can be, yet others are quite brutal and forceful!

Year of Study - 3rd year
Glove Size - L
Stethoscope Colour - Red (definitely best colour, shows you've got what it really takes!)
Favourite Operation - Hmm, don't really have one they're all pretty much very cool :-)
Desired Surgical Speciality - Again, can't give an answer on this but that's where being a member of scrubs comes in
First Experience of surgery - When I went out to Romania on work experience. Although I wasn't able to participate in the surgery myself *sad face* it was definitely a great experience to see it up close and talk to the surgeon as he did it! I saw all sorts from general surgery to orthopedics!
Why a career in surgery? - Surgery has always been a field of medicine that I’ve been fascinated in. It takes guts, confidence and instinct (as well as experience) to pull of, which can either scare people or excite them; I’d like to think that I’m the latter. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against the medical side of intervention but surgery provides more of that “hands on feel”, something we don't get much exposure too within the med school so much.
